Do you remember the Biblical story of Jesus feeding 5000 men, plus women and children, with only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish? It is the only miracle of Jesus that is recorded in all 4 Gospel books, Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
We learn from this story and from many others that large crowds always wanted to be where Jesus was. I believe that if Jesus is real, alive and present with us, many people will want to be around us. This is one of the reasons why I believe churches should always be growing! Where Jesus is there is great life!
We also learn from this story that Jesus uses what we have when we give it to Him. He uses the young. Everyone has something in your possession that God can use to help others.
We are told that when this miracle was concluded, there were 12 baskets of leftovers! How many disciples were there? We are told that the disciples questioned whether such a small amount could feed so many people. Yet, at the end, each disciple had a basket of food to take home! I wonder, when those disciples got old, and they were sitting around with family and friends around a table, did they still have the basket? Was their take home basket used for passing the bread around the table? Did they then speak to their family and friends saying, "Did I ever tell you about the time when Jesus gave me this basket?" And did all ears at the table perk up to listen because this man was the only one who had personally been with Jesus?
What do you have in your hand? What do you have that God can use to help others? He has given each of us something. What do you have that reminds you of something great God has done for you?
